About

Sophie Koole is a Rotterdam-based singer-songwriter whose sound blends soulful pop with subtle jazz influences. Her music is anchored in honest, straight-to-the-heart lyrics, exploring themes like insecurity, love, mistakes and the slow, steady work of personal growth.

Her arrangements shimmer with layered vocal harmonies, and her warm, low-registered voice is instantly recognisable. With a soulful timbre, laid-back phrasing and R&B-tinged vocal runs, Sophie moves fluidly between soul, jazz and pop, echoing the spirit of artists like Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill and Lalah Hathaway.

Her most recent release, Paradise, signalled a shift. Originally released under the name Sophia Zelan — a name she has now grown beyond — the track marks the beginning of sharing her music authentically under her own name, with more releases already on the horizon.

Alongside her work as a performing artist, Sophie is an active vocal coach and the conductor of various vocal groups. She brings a rare perspective to both her music and her teaching: she is also studying Psychology, giving her a deep understanding of expression, emotion and the human voice. That combination of artistry, technique and psychological insight shapes her unique approach to songwriting, performing and guiding other singers.

As part of her artistic development, Sophie enrolled in the Master’s programme in Jazz Vocals at Trinity College London, where she continues to refine her craft and immerse herself in the city’s vibrant music scene.

In December 2025, Sophie Koole will join Koosje on tour as the opening act, performing her original music with her own ensemble and two backing vocalists, accompanying herself on guitar. It marks the start of a new chapter: one where her voice, artistry and vision come fully into their own.
